Interviewing Mr. Nefos

Lowdown: What Is The Fugett Ski Club?

Mr. Nefos: It's a club for 6th, 7th and 8th graders that ski or snowboard or want to learn how.

Lowdown: When and how did the ski club start?

Mr. Nefos: It started a loooong time ago, Mrs. DeLeo even participated in the club during her time at Fugett. I simply carried on the wonderful tradition that Fugett started.

Lowdown: When and where does the lowdown take place?

Mr. Nefos: Friday afternoons in January and February at bear creek, and then we'll have an all day, end of the year, saturday trip at Jack Frost

Lowdown: Why do you think students enjoy Fugett's Ski Club?

Mr. Nefos: Kids enjoy the club because they have a lot of freedom and they love skiing and snowboarding with friends.

Lowdown: How many students usually participate in the ski club?

Mr. Nefos: Every week we have 55 kids go on the trip and 155 to 160 members usually are in the club overall.

Lowdown: What do you enjoy most about the Ski CLub?

Mr. Nefos: I love to ski and I love spending the time with students outside of school.

Lowdown: Why did you decide to carry on the tradition of the ski club?

Mr. Nefos: I think it is great for the kids to have a opportunity to ski and I love going out and having fun with the students. Also, I think it's Important to continue the club since we have the most active ski clubs in the district.

Lowdown: Are there any traditions or competitions you have in the ski club?

Mr. Nefos: Our end of the year Jack Frost trip is always a special tradition that the kids enjoy.

Lowdown: What happens if a Ski club trip is snowed out?

Mr. Nefos: Though it happens rarely, if the trip is snowed out, you will receive an automatic credit for the next trip that you attend.

Lowdown: Does the school district activity fee cover ski club?

Mr. Nefos: No, you have to pay an additional $5 along with the money your child needs for activities at bear creek.

Lowdown: What if you are sick on a ski trip day?

Mr. Nefos: You will receive a full credit for a future trip.

Lowdown: What if you want to be in ski club, but can't come to every trip?

Mr. Nefos: Of course you can still join, in fact, most students, only come a few times, and some only come to the Jack Frost end of the year trip.

Lowdown: What if I forget to come on a trip, but I signed up?

Mr. Nefos: You'll have a full credit for another trip, but the bus money is non-refundable.

Lowdown: When does the club leave Bear Creek?

Mr. Nefos: The club leaves at 9:00 p.m. sharp, and students who are late will have ski club privileges taken away. We arrive back at fugett at 10:15, and parents should be there to pick students up.
